One Dress, Lasting Impact

For more than two decades, YWCA Bethlehem's Pop-Up Prom Shop has helped ensure that every student has the opportunity to celebrate one of high school's most memorable milestones with confidence and dignity. While the program provides affordable formalwear, its true impact extends far beyond a dress, it reflects our commitment to empowering women and girls, fostering confidence, and inspiring our community to support one another.

This year, we were especially touched by the story of Maria and her daughter, Mariah. In 2024, Mariah found her prom dress through the Pop-Up Prom Shop as she prepared to celebrate her senior year. Two years later, Maria returned to the Prom Shopas a volunteer, helping future students experience the same excitement and joy that her daughter once did. Their story is a wonderful reminder that the impact of our mission, transforming participants into advocates and volunteers who give back to their community. We are incredibly grateful for participants and volunteers like you for being part of the YWCA Bethlehem family and for sharing your journey with us.

Volunteers have been the center of the Pop-Up Prom Shop for over 19 years, waiting back to its beginnings at the Easton State Theater.

From the State Theatre in Easton and ArtsQuest to YWCA Bethlehem’s former office, Venture X, and now Wind Creek Bethlehem, the Prom Shop has found many homes throughout its 19+ year history.

Since then, the Prom Shop has grown tremendously, serving an average of 150-200 students and families each year. Through every stage of growth, our volunteers have remained essential to making the Prom Shop the welcoming, exciting experience that it is today.

This past year, we have had more than 130 volunteers come together over the course of 2 days, helping us bring the Pop-Up Prom Shop to life at Wind Creek Bethlehem. From organizing hundreds of dresses, goodies, and accessories to helping students find the perfect outfit, our volunteers made the day that much more special. In fact, more than 15% of attendees shared with us that their favorite part of the event was the support they received from our amazing volunteers.

Stories like Maria and Mariah’s bring the Prom Shop full circle. Those who have epxierence the event firsthand understand just how meaningful it can be for a student and their family. When former participants and their families return as volunteers they are able to use that experience to welcome, encourage, and support the next generation of teens as they search for the look of their dreams.
